River Writing

Write it Out

Bear with me here. I know journaling makes some people roll their eyes. Sometimes it seems like a chore. I get that. But journaling has many benefits, including clearing the mind. For years I have done something I call River Writing. It is your basic stream-of-consciousness writing. Think of the way a stream or river just flows over the landscape, going this way and that. I find this way of writing takes a lot of pressure off traditional journaling because there is no right or wrong way to do it. Simply take out a notebook or loose paper and start writing whatever comes to mind.

One thing I find that makes this easier is writing prompts. However, my version of prompts are random and arbitrary and are not meant to cause a headache. Prompts can lead absolutely anywhere. Start with cows and you wind up writing about your favorite vacation as a kid. It doesn’t matter. This is just for you.

Starting tomorrow, I will start posting a prompt every day. So go grab a pen and some paper and get ready to have some random writing experiences.
